Can you believe the kittens are 14 weeks old today? No, neither can we!
The kittens have grown so much over the last few weeks and they’ve been a busy couple of weeks for them also.
They’ve celebrated their first Christmas and their first New Year. Last week, we took them on a short trip in the car, to see another vet. They can’t remember anything about it other than they woke up minus a few bits and pieces! They were absolute superstars, not fazed at all by their ordeal.
Tomorrow is a big day for us all, as Achray leaves to join his new family in Edinburgh (they are much better at photography than we are, so hopefully we will have photos of him in his new home to share soon), closely followed by Achanalt & Ailsh, who are both heading to Ayr at the end of the week.
Arkaig is staying with us for a wee while as he is joining his new owner in a couple of weeks. Alvie is of course staying with us.
The kittens had a very busy couple of weeks leading up to Christmas – they met all their new owners and I’m so happy and relieved that they are all going to be thoroughly spoilt in their new homes!
They are gaining so much confidence around the house now and wait patiently at their door to be let out. We decided not to put a Christmas tree up this year…..can’t think why?
On Christmas Eve, they had their second vaccinations and health checks (what a super Christmas present!!)
They enjoyed their turkey on Christmas Day and loved the present that they received from Santa – they even slept all night.

This is an important week for kittens as they have their first vaccinations and health checks with the vet.
They were all very well behaved in the car – their first time being outside or even out of the kitten room (if you do not count escaping) and really enjoyed all the attention from the reception staff at Tay Valley Vets . We are very lucky to have Jonathan as our vet (as he loves cats) but we did have to count the kittens back into their carrier as I was quite sure he had one in his pocket! Eilidh came along to help and thank goodness she did – she is the only one of us that can immediately say which kitten is which!
All five kittens passed their vet check with flying colours and were so well behaved when receiving their vaccinations. Jonathan was so gentle with them and they all enjoyed his cuddles and a different view of the examination room.
Jonathan will not be there for their second vaccinations as he thinks it is more important to spend Christmas with his family in Peru!
We expected the kittens to be a little subdued for the next 24-48 hours but no, within minutes of arriving home they were running around the kitten room and playing.
Day by day, even hour by hour the kittens are gaining confidence in everything!
They are racing around the bedroom now, similar to the motorbikes on the wall of death – how can little kittens make so much noise when running?
They love human interaction; I could literally watch and play with them all day. They tumble off the bed whilst play fighting, get up and climb back on to quickly resume where they left off.
We’ve introduced a couple of scratchers for them to get used to using – although they seem to see them as toys at the moment.
Weaning has been completed and they are all happily munching on dry kitten food. I have to admit, this is much less messy. Cara still calls them for a feed from her too. They are all so big now, it’s amazing how they all still fit in.
The kittens were soon moving around and escaping the safe place Cara had been using for them so she decided to move them out herself. I walked into our bedroom mid-morning to find them all in the middle of the floor and Cara nursing them. Soon they were exploring the room, wobbling about and enjoying their newfound freedom!
For some strange reason they took a liking to Bob’s smelly trainers and would happily play and sleep on them……
It has been a privilege to watch how these little cuties have grown and developed over the last few weeks – ears just suddenly appearing, the growing confidence of moving around the room, the play fighting with each other (which I could watch all day long!) and poor Cara trying to keep her eye on them all at the same time, which is nye on impossible!
We were over the moon when Cara proudly presented us with FIVE kittens in the afternoon of 30th September 2024 – our very first litter of RUISEANACH RUSSIAN BLUES.
Mother nature is amazing, and we were totally in awe of our darling Cara, who took everything in her stride. We were a bit concerned that five kittens may be a bit overwhelming for her first litter, but she is such a caring, protective, and attentive mother.
We have three gorgeous boys and two beautiful girls; we are hoping to keep one of the girls.
